The Appleford Estate and the 22 acre Parsons-Banks Arboretum and Bird Sanctuary in Villanova was donated to Lower Merion Township by Annabel Parsons. Annabel Parsons engaged the services of landscape architect Thomas Sears and together they designed and created the lovely landscapes surrounding the Appleford mansion. The property has a beautiful boxwood garden, a delightful rose garden, perennial plantings, a duck pond, meadow and woodlands.
Appleford is a handsome example of early Pennsylvania architecture. Inside the mansion you have the priviledge to view Annabel's antique furnishings, carpeting, and paintings that provide a glimpse into her interesting life.
The Appleford Estate is available for events. The Parsons-Banks Arboretum and Bird Sanctuary is open to the public from dusk to dawn 365 days a year.
