Jenkins Arboretum is one of eastern Pennsylvania's major horticultural and environmental assets. H. Lawrence Jenkins established the Elisabeth Phillippe Jenkins Foundation and created the Jenkins Arboretum as a living memorial to his wife, an avid gardener and wildlife enthusiast. In 1971, Mrs. Louisa P. Browning, owner of the adjoining property, donated her 26 acres to the original 20 acres of the Arboretum.
Jenkins Arboretum is open 365 days a year from 8 am to sunset with free admission. The Arboretum was developed with an emphasis on azaleas and rhododendrons. Most of the wildflowers are perennials. Jenkins Arboretum is located in a rare remnant of a hardwood forest. The stream and pond provide habitat for a variety of flora and fauna not normally found in a woodland setting. Jenkins Arboretum serves as a living example of a natural, complex ecosystem and as a model for environmental stewardship.
